Maintenance courses at Finely Tuned Ride

Whether you’re a complete beginner or want to fine tune your advanced skills, FTR can arrange the perfect course for you and your bike. That might be as part of a group or club, or one 2 one if you prefer.

Rob Rowe, owner and founder of FTR will be your instructor and courses broadly follow the Park Tools School program, with a few extra tips thrown in from former aircraft engineer and race mechanic Rob.

For most of the courses, the Park Big Blue Book of Bike Repairs is included in the price. It’s easy to use, full of illustrative pictures and a great reference tool that covers basic jobs right up to more advanced bike repairs.

Our courses aim to give you the skills you need to carry out maintenance and repairs at home. You won’t actually be servicing your own bike, but learning how to fix issues as and when they arise. There’s lots of ground to cover, so courses are a mix of lectures, demos and some hands-on experience. As you work your way up the grades, you’ll find yourself doing more practical work as your competence levels increase. So you can expect more hands-on training on the intermediate and advanced courses, to match your growing skills!

What should I bring?

Tools and bike stands are provided, but you should bring your own bike and any tools you have. This allows Rob to advise on which tools you’ll need, to be able to practice what you’ve learnt at home.

Customer review…

Rob is one of the most knowledgeable, calm, friendly and helpful tradesmen I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He came over to our house for the day to service three bikes we will be taking on a ride to Spain. I asked him to spend the day with me so I could learn about doing the various repairs during our trip. He explained everything in a very clear and concise way without using lots of technical jargon and he very rapidly got my bike running smoothly again. He is very reasonable in all aspects of his business and I could not recommend him more highly.
